8 tips to cool down

The persistent summer weather is not always enjoyable for our dogs. How do you ensure that they also keep cool during the heat? For that we offer some handy cooling tips and practical cooling solutions that really work. For example, a siesta, special ice cream for dogs, water games, a cooling vest and an ergonomic life jacket for dogs.

Tip 1: Water, water and even more water
Drinking is extremely important for dogs during the heat. Therefore, refresh your dogs water bowl at least daily. You can always throw in some ice cubes for extra cooling. An additional water bowl can tempt dogs to drink even more. Does your dog go for a walk in the woods? With the travel bowl by EQDOG you can ensure that your dog drinks whenever he wants – do not forget to bring an extra bottle of water!

Tip 2: Provide a cool spot
Dogs cannot sweat through their paws. That is why a nice place in the shade is very important for dogs. Provide a space where the sun does not come all day long; a sun-free bathroom with cool tiles is, for example, a small piece of heaven for most dogs in the summer. Optionally, a cooling mat or a wet towel can also help.

Tip 3: Give your dog a siesta
Take an example to the Spaniards and let your dog enjoy a summer siesta every day: no walks or activities between 12:00 and 16:00. This is the hottest moment of the day and therefor there is a high chance of overheating.

Tip 4: Beware of asphalt
Are you going for a walk? Even outside the siesta times asphalt can be very hot. This can cause your dog to burn his paws. Always check the temperature of the asphalt before you let your dog run on it.

Tip 5: Use a cooling vest
Many dogs get warm quickly; it does not even have to be super hot outside. For these dogs, a cooling vest is a godsend when walking. For example, the Cool Dog from EQDOG is an ultra slim cooling vest that only cools down when the dog needs it. In addition, the Cool Dog is safer than most other cooling vests because it is not equipped with a toxic gel pack.

Tip 6: Play water games
Fill a large bowl or an inflatable pool and throw water-resistant toys in it. And if your dog doesn’t like to fish for toys? Then turn on the sprinklers or let the dog enjoy a cold water jet with the garden hose. Note: do not over-excite dog, because then he can still overheat!

Tip 7: Save swimming
Most dogs love swimming. So much that they do not realize that there can be heavy currents or that their energy is almost gone. Swimming can be quite exhausting. The lightweight EQDOG lifejackets are specially designed to protect and help dogs during swimming, boating, surfing and playing in the water.

Tip 8: Treat to special dog ice creams
Fill an ice cream mold or Kong with chilled, saltless broth and for example freshly ground meat, cooked rice, cucumber, carrot and / or cooked green beans – of course depending on the dog’s diet. You can also use unsweetened fruit juice or applesauce. Do not serve the ice cream directly from the freezer; just rinse with cold water or wait to prevent the tongue or lips of your dog to freeze to the ice. Fun for at home and in the store!

A life vest from EQDOG helps your dog stay save.

The smart Cool Dog from EQDOG has no gel pack and which makes it safer than most other cooling vests.
