Mixing with Pomppa
Of course, dogs also need protection from weather and wind – despite or perhaps because of their fur. Pomppa‘s dog (rain) coats offer the ultimate protection against cold and rain. But: which coat fits which dog best? That depends on what kind of coat they have, what the season is and the activity of the dog. But you can also mix up the coats as well!
Four types of dog coats
You’ll find all of Pomppa’s dog coats in catalog 22-23, including the SadePomppa, KevytPomppa, PerusPomppa and the ToppaPomppa. The difference between these dog coats is their water resistance, heat retention and lining, which determines how warm a dog coat is. The differences in short:
To determine which coat is best for which dog, you have to answer the following 3 questions:
1. What is their coat type?
- Shorthaired or wirehaired
Because short-haired or wire-haired dogs often have no undercoat, they need extra warmth when it gets colder. This also applies to small, slender and older dogs and puppies. - Long-haired or thick coat
Dogs with long, thick and dense coats usually tolerate even fairly challenging weather conditions well. Often, these dogs do not need extra protection during the off-season. But as soon as it gets colder, it is a good idea to have a coat on hand. This is because an indoor dog’s undercoat is often not dense enough to protect against freezing temperatures and inclement winds.
2. What is the season?
- Spring or fall
The SadePomppa provides good protection from rain and wind, and when it gets a bit colder, the KevytPomppa is better. This coat has a thin synthetic fur lining and is perfect for the mid-season. The lightweight materials make it easy to take the coats with you in case of a sudden downpour. - Winter
The PerusPomppa has a warm teddy lining, which is ideal in cold weather. Is your dog not a fan of cold weather? Then use this coat as protection from the inclement winds in fall and spring.
In the brutal cold, the ToppaPomppa’s insulating cotton padding provides protection. The coat falls slightly larger than other Pomppa coats to keep the dog as warm as possible. The dog sweater JumppaPomppa can be used indoors and outdoors, without and under another Pomppa coat, such as the SadePomppa.
3. What is the activity?
- Daily activities
PerusPomppa is perfect for everyday outdoor activities, from late fall to the last days of winter. The thick teddy lining keeps the dog warm even in freezing weather and prevents the icy wind from passing through the coat. - Training and competition
During strenuous exercise, your dog naturally needs less of the extra warmth of a dog coat or dog sweater. Observe your dog closely and see what is needed. Also take into account times when the dog can cool down quickly, such as when you enter the car or between workouts. At such times, the ToppaPomppa can provide protection – but take off the coat when the dog starts running and jumping again!
