Get your dog bikini-ready

Extra corona weight is not only a phenomenon among humans, many of our dogs have also gained a few pounds in recent years. After all, those who work from home can also treat the dog to a treat (or two) more often. As a result, the professional association for veterinarians sees more and more obese dogs. Here are a few tips to get your dog back into shape.

Good weight or not?

It can sometimes be quite complicated to find out whether a dog is overweight or not. Often the dog is at a good weight if you can feel the ribs under a thin layer of fat. Are the ribs harder to feel? Do you feel a thick layer of fat? Then you need to take action, because an overweight dog has a greater risk of diabetes, heart disease, skin problems, breathing difficulties and arthritis. A dog that is overweight often gets tired faster during walks, doesn’t keep up games as long, gets easily overheated during hot weather and keeps begging for more food.

Eat less

In essence, it is very simple: those who want to lose weight should exercise more and eat less. On each bag of dog food it says how much of this particular food the dog can eat each day. Stick to that and ignore the dog’s questioning eyes. This also means: no more snacks – although vegetables are allowed of course. Please note that castrated dogs need up to one third less food. Of course, there are special diet foods that ensure that the dog gets all the important vitamins and minerals and quiets the appetite. There are also products on the market that help promote weight loss, but these types of waste diets do cause the volume of stool to increase. This means that dogs also need to go outside more often.

Exercise more

More exercise is essential for an overweight dog. A food ball will get even the laziest dog up and running. Also, most dogs are definitely up for a game like frisbee or fetch. Alternate the usual walk with a bit of cycling or an extra walk around the block. Just make sure you have some sturdy gear to counterbalance overly lazy dogs. With the new Comfort Walk Go by DOG Copenhagen, for example, the dog can keep trying to sit still or pull in the direction of home, because this lightweight 3D harness prevents the dog from coughing or gagging. Is the dog much too heavy? In that case, swimming is much better and safer than walking. This way, the joints are relieved. Afterwards you can quickly dry your dog with the Doggy Dry from EQDOG.

Bikini-ready together

Did you also gain some extra corona weight? Then the Orbiloc K9 Active Pack might be something for you. This set of Orbiloc Safety Lights is specially made for dog and owner. With these safety lights from Orbiloc you are both visible in traffic and you can safely go on the road together. For example, if you go for an extra walk or run together. The Orbiloc K9 Active Pack consists of an Orbiloc Dog Dual with amber light (including holder for attachment to dog harness or collar) for the dog and an Orbiloc Run Dual with dark-colored light (including clip and bracelet), which you wear on your arm.

It’s finally possible again: from May 24 to 27 you can go to Interzoo, the international trade fair filled with leading pet products in Nuremberg, Germany. Absolutely worth a visit for every dog trainer, pet store and outdoor store with an eye for dog lovers. And NOHO agency, DOG Copenhagen, Orbiloc, Pomppa, Owney Outdoor and Bandee by Owney will be there this year!

Over 1,300 exhibitors

At Interzoo 2022 no less than 1,300 exhibitors from more than 60 countries will come together. Here you can discover the latest and most innovative products for pets. You will get an overview of the latest pet food products, care aids and accessories for dogs, but also for other pets, such as cats, birds, fish and terrarium animals. The leading trade show is a barrel of inspiration for anyone working within the pet industry.

Download the Interzoo app

The biennial trade fair had to be organized digitally in 2020 due to coronation measures, but this year it will take place as usual on the exhibition grounds of NürnbergMesse. The handy Interzoo app is new, which allows you to have the fair in your pocket:

  • Ticket Wallet: with your digital admission ticket you have an almost contactless access to the fair.
  • Personalized fair planner: create an individual checklist and benefit from route suggestions.
  • QR code scanning: exchange digital business cards and receive digital information about products and companies.
  • Appointment function: easily make appointments with other visitors and registered exhibitors.
  • Interactive map: always find your way through Interzoo with this map.
Coronary measures in Germany
·       When visiting Germany, a vaccination, recovery certificate (valid from 28 to a maximum of 90 days after positive PCR test) or negative test (PCR or antigen test no more than 48 hours old) is still required from the age of 12.
·       A medical mouthpiece (FFP2/KN95 mask) is mandatory in public transport, airports and air travel for everyone 7 years of age and older.
·       Interzoo is not subject to any access restrictions. The organization does take additional protective measures (ventilation, regular cleaning and disinfection dispensers) to ensure a safe visit.

Let’s meet up!
