Which color Orbiloc Safety Light do you choose?

In the fall and winter, you can’t leave the house with your dog without safety lights. And Orbiloc‘s robust and versatile Safety Lights are excellent for walks with your dog. But which color dog light should you choose? When do you need safety lights? Each color has other advantages. NOHO lists them for you.

Look at the coat & environment

Whatever color you choose, always look at the dog’s coat first. Because broadly speaking, the darker the coat, the lighter the color of the safety light. Conversely, the lighter the coat, the darker the color lamp. Going for a walk in the city? Then any striking color is advisable – it doesn’t matter whether you choose an Orbiloc Safety Light in a standard color or a fashion color. In rural areas, it is best to choose a color that you do not often see in traffic. That’s why fashion colors are the way to go.

Standard colors

  • Red: The color red always attracts attention in traffic because it is associated with stopping and with emergencies. The color is ideal for attracting attention because you can see it from a greater distance than other colors.
  • Yellow: The color yellow is well distinguished by the human eye and is highly visible in fog. The color is also gentle on the eyes, which makes it nice to look at during walks with your dog. Yellow lights are also used as warning signals and at road works.
  • Green: Green light is easy to see in the dark as well as in sunlight. We see this color better than other color, with much more contrast, and many people prefer this color. Green safety lights are an absolute must-have.
  • Blue: Blue light is associated with police, emergencies and accidents. Road users reduce their speed when they see blue light, and therefore the color can prevent accidents. You don’t see many blue lights on the street, which makes it extra noticeable.
  • White: This color of light is similar to headlights on cars and bicycles. Therefore, oncoming traffic may think your dog with its white Safety Light could be runner or bicyclist that is approaching. White light is useful for dogs with long hair or thick fur. You can also use the light as a flashlight.

Fashion colors

  • Purple: The color purple is a mix of the colors red and blue. Purple light looks elegant and modern and it is a versatile color that you can combine well with different colors of collars and harnesses.
  • Turquoise: The color turquoise is a mix of the colors blue and green. It brings to mind the color of the ocean and is a good gender-neutral color that looks modern and stands out to oncoming traffic.
  • Pink: The color pink is a mix of purple and red and is often linked to something sweet. It represents passion, fun and energy and can be a beautiful, colorful addition to a cheerful dog coat, dog leash or dog harness.
  • Amber: The color amber is bright and warm and a mix of yellow and orange. Beautiful to see in the fall, especially with a dark, deep brown dog coat.
  • Dark: A dark light looks minimalist, futuristic and stylish. Orbiloc’s dark safety lights also have a xenon-like white light that you often see on cars as well – so they are super safe.

Mixing with Pomppa

Of course, dogs also need protection from weather and wind – despite or perhaps because of their fur. Pomppa‘s dog (rain) coats offer the ultimate protection against cold and rain. But: which coat fits which dog best? That depends on what kind of coat they have, what the season is and the activity of the dog. But you can also mix up the coats as well!

Four types of dog coats

You’ll find all of Pomppa’s dog coats in catalog 22-23, including the SadePomppa, KevytPomppa, PerusPomppa and the ToppaPomppa. The difference between these dog coats is their water resistance, heat retention and lining, which determines how warm a dog coat is. The differences in short:

To determine which coat is best for which dog, you have to answer the following 3 questions:

1. What is their coat type?

  • Shorthaired or wirehaired
Because short-haired or wire-haired dogs often have no undercoat, they need extra warmth when it gets colder. This also applies to small, slender and older dogs and puppies.
  • Long-haired or thick coat
Dogs with long, thick and dense coats usually tolerate even fairly challenging weather conditions well. Often, these dogs do not need extra protection during the off-season. But as soon as it gets colder, it is a good idea to have a coat on hand. This is because an indoor dog’s undercoat is often not dense enough to protect against freezing temperatures and inclement winds.

2. What is the season?

  • Spring or fall
The SadePomppa provides good protection from rain and wind, and when it gets a bit colder, the KevytPomppa is better. This coat has a thin synthetic fur lining and is perfect for the mid-season. The lightweight materials make it easy to take the coats with you in case of a sudden downpour.
  • Winter
The PerusPomppa has a warm teddy lining, which is ideal in cold weather. Is your dog not a fan of cold weather? Then use this coat as protection from the inclement winds in fall and spring.
In the brutal cold, the ToppaPomppa’s insulating cotton padding provides protection. The coat falls slightly larger than other Pomppa coats to keep the dog as warm as possible. The dog sweater JumppaPomppa can be used indoors and outdoors, without and under another Pomppa coat, such as the SadePomppa.

3. What is the activity?

  • Daily activities
PerusPomppa is perfect for everyday outdoor activities, from late fall to the last days of winter. The thick teddy lining keeps the dog warm even in freezing weather and prevents the icy wind from passing through the coat.
  • Training and competition
During strenuous exercise, your dog naturally needs less of the extra warmth of a dog coat or dog sweater. Observe your dog closely and see what is needed. Also take into account times when the dog can cool down quickly, such as when you enter the car or between workouts. At such times, the ToppaPomppa can provide protection – but take off the coat when the dog starts running and jumping again!

Need more? Combine!

Does your dog suffer in cold weather ? And is even the ToppaPomppa not enough protection? Then the super smart dog sweater JumppaPomppa offers the solution. You can also combine the sweater with thinner coats to achieve a warmer version. This results in the following combinations:

SadePomppa+JumppaPomppa=KevytPomppa
KevytPomppa+JumppaPomppa=PerusPomppa
PerusPomppa+JumppaPomppa=ToppaPomppa
ToppaPomppa+JumppaPomppa=reserved only for when it’s true cold or when the dog really does not like to cold

Advice per dog

Every dog is different, of course. Whether and which dog coat is needed, depends on the dog’s condition, age and health. Do you need advice? Or would you like to know more about Pomppa’s dog coats? We are at your service: call +31(0)6 109 104 63 or email info@noho.nl.
